The Persistence of Memory Upgrades

How has communication changed? What will stand the test of time? With our 24 hour news cycles and images bombarding us on our social media platforms, how do we filter what stays and what goes? In this piece, recycled memory sticks form a grid that frames painted iconic images from the first handprints to twitter birds flying through the air. The Hadron Accelerator, pictured in the center of the piece, enables us to examine conditions during the formation of the universe and proves Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity. Salvador Dali was fascinated with Einstein’s theory and composed his paintings “The Persistence of Memory” and “The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory” as an homage to the scientist’s work. The idea of time travel, scientific evolution, great mysteries of civilization are all featured in this maze of images meant to question what we, as a society, will elevate to our history of humankind. Warp speed technology makes things appear then vanish before we can process their importance and adopt them into our lexicon. What will endure this blazing technological explosion of data, speed, and information?
