Under Pressure

Under Pressure is a global timeline on climate change. Using satellite imagery and aerial photography of global “hotspots’ from several sources (e.g. NASA and National Geographic to aboriginal dream paintings) a distressed planet Earth manually spins, illustrating how comprehensive and irreversible the damage has become to our planet. The domino effect of climate change becomes. clear: there is not a single mile on this planet that will emerge unscathed. Fossil fuel consumption is one driving force of this cataclysm. The fossilized sand dollars embedded around the globe in diminishing size and number represent these finite resources. Unchecked consumption of these resources around the world causes temperatures to rise accordingly. These temperature changes are indicated on the bell jar by rising graph lines that correspond to decades labeled on the base. As we burn fossil fuels, so do we burn the planet. Trapping the globe under a bell jar builds the pressure until the globe literally cracks from all the physical stresses. The chasm in the surface with its oozing contents represents this catastrophic meltdown.
