tech…tech…tech…BOoM!

An aerial view of San Francisco as the city experiences a 5G technological cataclysm is the basis for this work composed of scrap computer parts, circuit boards, and clay on a stand the color of the Golden Gate Bridge. This piece shows the stranglehold the tech industry has on an entire city, dictating the way we communicate, fall in love, order food, travel, work, exercise, and go to school. At the dizzying pace the tech industry accumulates our personal data, what is becoming of our privacy? What happens to the marginalized, the low income workers, and the essential workers so vital to the city’s critical function? As the demographic chasm widens, and technology takes over more of our lives, the fault lines fracture, revealing an underworld of lit computer screens populated by oversized app icons. The cityscape splits and undulates as the tremors of a technological earthquake shake and twist our 5G connectivity. A viewer’s guide is available that lists landmarks and neighborhoods reimagined as computer parts.
